Visualization for Situational
Awareness (download PDF)
Abstract:
We present a situational awareness
system that handles very large amounts of tactical and geo-spatial information
to facilitate rapid comprehension of a complex battlespace. Symbolic representation
of military units is computationally efficient and conveys more tactical informational
than realistic rendering. Conventional polygon-based terrain modeling would
exceed the capacity of current computer graphics. Rendering very large texture
maps has overcome this limitation. The system is scaleable according to hardware
capability, enabling remote users to share situational awareness with the
command center.
